   April 30, 2012
I love it when the spring air begins to hint at summer.  It fills me with anticipation, for summer trips, no homework, and all the things I can learn over the summer.  I always wonder how I'll spend the summer since I can never imagine how there can be more books.  I've read so many, all wonderful.  I have a small-but growing-list of the ones I plan to read or reread this summer.
Recently, I've been reading a great book, The Pale Assassin, set in the French Revolution.  It's a wonderful book, full of suspense, romance and history.  I've learned a lot without even knowing it.  Did you know that the Marquis de Lafayette, a key figure in the American Revolution, was also a key figure in the French Revolution since he tried to support both king and country?  Some people probably knew that, but I found it interesting since I know so little about that time period in France.  The main character, Eugenie de Boncoeur, is an aristocrat trying to escape those who would have her killed simply because of who she is.  She doesn't understand why they shun her until she sees true poverty on her flight to England.  Eugenie and her brother Armand spend the book trying to protect each other and still save the royal family.  If you know a little about the book's history, then you know that they fail in at least one of these attempts.  It's a great young adult book, and I would reccomend it for adults who love that time period also.  I can't spoil the ending, but in such a well-written book you can trust that it will be good!
I have another book I'm preparing to read called Child of the Mountains.  It's set in my home state of West Virginia and one of the characters suffers from an illness I'm familiar with, cystic fibrosis.  I only mention this book to remind my loyal followers that it's not too late to sponsor me in the Great Strides CF Walk.  Or you can look up the times and places for your area and help me to raise money for research.  Thanks for reading all this, and don't forget to tell your friends!
